Mock Results Afternoon (Thursday 30th January)
Dear Year 13 parents and students,
We are hosting a mock results afternoon, before parents evening, on Thursday 30th January at 4pm. The presentation will last 30 minutes and will provide parents and carers with further guidance on how to support their son/daughter through the mock and summer examinations, plus guidance on how we will be ensuring students achieve the best possible outcomes. We will be advising on our great Year 13 offer, revision and interventions running plus give further advice on Up Learn and revision.
After the presentation, parents and students are invited to attend their teacher meetings in the Hall.
Why Mock Exams Matter
Mock exams are more than just a rehearsal. They provide an opportunity for students to:
- Gauge Current Progress: Mocks give a clear indication of where each student currently stands in their subjects and highlight strengths and areas for improvement.
- Experience Real Exam Conditions: They mimic the actual GCSE exam environment, helping students become familiar with the format, timing, and the pressure of sitting in an examination hall.
- Identify Gaps in Knowledge: The results will guide targeted revision and allow for more effective preparation over the coming months.
- Build Confidence: Facing a set of exams in controlled conditions helps to build resilience and confidence, key elements for success in the final exams.
Mock examinations are also used to make informed predictions for university and apprenticeship applications. Students who are applying for university before Christmas will have their most recent predicted grade used (end of Year 12 mock). Those waiting til after Christmas, we will use the recent December mock examinations to determine predicted grades. In both cases, each student will meet with me to discuss options, mocks and predictions.
Key Information
- Exam Timetable: A detailed exam schedule will be provided to ensure students can prepare accordingly.
- Revision Strategies: Students are encouraged to start their revision early. Teachers will continue to offer support and guidance in lessons, and there are a range of revision materials available through online platforms and school resources.
- Attendance: It is vital that all students attend their mock exams on time, as these are treated with the same importance as the final A Levels.
- Study periods and independent learning: students have 14 additional hours on their timetables where they are expected to revise, complete work and develop independent learning skills. In the run up to mock examinations, students should be tailoring their revision during these set periods.
Next Steps
Following the Mock 1 series, there will be a detailed review of each student's performance. Teachers will provide feedback and strategies for improvement, and we will work together to ensure that all students are on track to reach their full potential in the final exams.
We understand that this can be a stressful time, and we are here to support both students and parents throughout this process. Please do not hesitate to reach out to subject teachers or the sixth form team if you have any concerns or need further guidance.
